Presenting the last addition to our 2023 Autumn Gold collection, the Meghalaya Autumn Gold. This is the last batch of the season and the tea maker informed us that the previous autumn black tea we got was their last batch as well, so turns out all their batches are great, the first and the last! This is made from the AV2 cultivar and is processed in Darjeeling second flush style, although the output is very different.
The dry leaf smells like cherry and has the powdery sweetness this cultivar is famous for. After placing on the heated ware, you get notes of cream, malt and cherry. On the first sip you know you're drinking something which will wake you up. Autumn tea notes like wet wood and malt are present. The cherry like note is also present in the background. There's a pleasant astringency as well which makes every sip very refreshing on the finish, pushing you to take hotter sips than you normally would! On further sips, you can taste notes of wood apple and lotus biscoff. If you are looking for a simple and delicious black tea which is also robust enough to wake you up, this is it.
